sadly, no more!
Just been up to my apiary, but did not go into the hives, because it was a little cool - and threatening to rain.

My biggest and busiest hive (which was fine when I checked it two days ago - with no sign of Queen cells etc), was once again very busy. Looking at the entrance, however, I was struck by how many drones were trying unsuccessfully to gain entrance. I can only think of two reasons for this: drones returning from a mating flight (but I think it unlikely since I really do not believe that the hive has swarmed); or they are being ejected because the hive have decided they are now surplus to requirements (but surely it is too early for this to happen).

I now prostrate myself in front of the experts not worthynot worthynot worthy, and seek their views not worthynot worthynot worthy

Just my thoughts but the weather is err...

Hives in inclement conditions do jettison drones.

On saying that one of my ex virgins had mating sign hanging from her rear yesterday so mine are still "working".

They could be just that Drones trying to gain entry.......but not your Drones.

Thats good news PH:.) I'm hoping some of mine have also succeded. Far too many virgins in my hives at the mo. My thinking is, as most have had what appeared to be supersedure cells and no other cells, they didnt mate well last year either and its bye bye time. Actually found 1 queen dead between topbar ends (not topbar hives) but too early for her repalcement yet. So fingers and toes well crossed. Collecting (hopefully) 2 swarms that I 'boxed' earlier today, in a few hours. Still flying madly, I been informed by both householders:.)
