hi dont know why they are still in the hive but i can see some drones in the hive still?? the queen is still laying and the hive population is still growing. It is in a nuc though if that makes any difference and the queen is a strong layer. The bees still going out collecting pollen and nectar even though its only 10c max around here. I could put the growth down to the odd sunny week we had but would still expect the queen to slow down by now.

another thing i noticed was some of the bees had some white/gray almost see through gel on the abdomen too which ive never seen before if anyone would know what this is would be greatly appreciated. only noticed on a couple of them but didn't properly inspect the hive due to the weather. I will take some photos if the weather is good and i get a chance.

Still have the odd drone entering/leaving my hives; not sure if there is any drone brood still as they are all prepped for winter now and I've stopped inspecting. Also the occasional bit of pollen going in.

No idea on the "gel".

White/grey stuff is probably Himalayan Balsam. Most drones are gone by now but there always a few who escape the eviction.

Funny i thought its probably Himalayan Balsam but looks kinda jelly rather than like paint which i have seen on others but i could be wrong. Need to post pictures tbh. Other than that hive is strong. I didnt inspect the hive... only noticed it when they come up to feed on the fondant.

Will probably be the fondant. They get it on themselves and the others lick it off.
