I have, or rather had a really strong hive with DLQ or I think more likely drone laying worker(s). I have been unable to inspect for 6 weeks due to medical reasons and unable to lift... I can now. All the drone cells were in the brood box below the QE.
Hive was a 14x12 with 4 supers.
I was reluctant to do a complete shake out, which would normally be the best option as the other hives in the apiary are all short on space, and the extra bees may overwhelm them.
I decided to shake out just the 14x12 BB and let the flying bees return to an empty national BB on the same hive stand with drawn comb, and QE above then the supers. Thoughts on whether this will work? My thinking being the DLW or DLQ will all have been in the shaken out BB and unable to return?
I have a spare laying Q in an apedia and a sealed QC (due 2/3 days to emerge) ... which would be preferable to try and what’s the best timing . I’ll use a cage if introducing the Q.
Thoughts anyone?
Thanks
