Spent the day at Countryfile live at Blenheim Palace. I took a look at the BBKA stand. Looked quite attractive and was very busy. Their observation hive was two frames one on top of the other with maybe twenty or so bees squashed dead into the wax between the frames. Pity. Looked nasty. They had a live dmonstration inside a net tent and a chap spent ten minutes trying to light the smoker which eventually took off with flames coming out of the spout. Great stuff. This was the highlight of Stan's day

Great way to promote the craft.... Would have thought that the BBKA might have been able to muster something a little better than dead bees for onlookers to see.. Quite sad really.

Was it a nightmare getting in to the show? Got some freebie tickets but not sure want to wait for 3 hours just to get in which a lot of people had to do

We were ok we stayed an charlbury in the camper and it took us an hour to through the gate at just after 10. People arriving later had a nightmare journey. The show was ok but I wouldn't bother going again

did he use a flint and tinder as per the original manual?

Absolutely daft as a showcase for promoting the craft. He used one if those long lighter things. The demonstrator's assistant got left with struggling with it. Asked to smoke the top frames after opening the lid and taking he super off (why) she tipped it up to blow smoke down the frames. I couldn't watch any more. I felt sorry later on thinking that this hive was going to be opened up in a similar fashion three times a day for the next four days. There was a nice local honey display and I bought some. They had some drawn super frames out and it was obvious they were not completely dry and the bees had found them. When I arrived a couple of folk were hastily putting away wax sheets for candle rolling as the bees had found those too. Oh dear. I cheered myself up by buying a few foodie treats and stopping by at Maisie's for a new poly nuc box.

I do like the Countryfile team and their latest presenter Paul Martin in the Summer Special programs

All the presenters were there mingling with the crowds. Hence the photo ;)
I was at a rewilding debate, recorded for radio 4s farmers weekly presented by Charlotte Williams? Is it? That was excellent.

Looks like she's about to lose her purse any minute and the guy in the wheelchair photo bombing is classic!! :paparazzi:

Nice photo Erica. I must say though, you look slightly younger than I expected. (Yes, I do mean the one on the left) :D
Ok....I'm sorry! :sorry::)
