I did an inspection today and also marked a new queen, when I removed the queen marking cage she flew off and dissapeared into the sky,she had returned when I checked 3 hours later, but I noticed 1 of her back legs seems deformed or damaged, she was dragging it rather than walking on it,she has not started laying yet will this impede her?also can the fact that she found her own way back mean she has left the hive before on a mating flight?

I recall being taught when clipping wings to avoid damaging the back legs at all costs....still, it's better you know now than find a problem in a few weeks time!

A queen feels for cell size with her front legs, so you will not see drone brood appearing. However, you can expect supersedure with a withered rear leg, and they might even swarm with such a queen ... seen it myself.

And I would not be so sure that the queen that flew off returned to the hive. Supersedure was perhaps already underway and what flew off was a recently emerged virgin queen, ie. there were two queens in the hive.
