Hi folks,

This year I fancy putting a frame in each of my supers especially for ’Cut Comb’ the query I have is regards to the frame. I’m guessing I don’t use wired foundation.... do I just leave the frame empty and leave the rest to them. Or should I use wire free foundation?

Thanks for any feedback, it’s appreciated.

Buy a pack of super thin foundation and just use that. Full sheets give better more consistent results than starter strips.

But ... not that inconsistent and your punters can be told that your cut comb came only from the bees ... no foundation wax used.

I use both starter strips and thin foundation alternating. Works well in a really good flow. The strips make a nicer product but not as consistent as the foundation. Two summers ago (remember the heat and the drought?) the bees brought in so much honey it was difficult to keep up. I had supers of the stuff. Still have lots already cut in the freezer.

I've given up on cut comb here .. my regular customers are not interested, I keep a few in the freezer just in case I get a call for it but I think it's an acquired taste. It gets interest when people see it and it's a talking point but that's about as far as it goes.

:iagree:
My customers love the idea and get very nostalgic about it when talking to their kids, then buy a jar of clear honey :)

I find the CC sells very well in my shop.

Mark your top bar with an identifier, as in I used to put CC in indelible ink when I had a few CC frames in heather supers. Also, I would suggest using Manley side bars as they give a lovely comb which is usually just right for the containers.

I’ve always found comb in it’s various forms sells well and well over double the equivalent jar/runny price it’s obviously not volume but those that like it often stock up. Apart from that I love it on a decent bit of granary bread myself and that’s enough reason for me.

Don't laugh - I was really keen to like cut comb. But just found I end up chewing and chewing on the wax. Am I doing it wrong?
