I know I'm gonna get some strange answers to this, but here goes anyway

How do you estimate the size of a colony?

If it's a quick glance, then it's are the bees in the supers, or if none present how many frames of bees are there?

On inspection I judge them by the frames of brood.

my way was to just weigh the colony with bathroom scales

When I started beekeeping, I bought swarms.

2 kg swarm = 20 000 bees accupied one langstroth box = 9 frames.

4 kg occupied almost 2 boxes.

So one frame full of bees= about 2000 bees = 200 g.

When one full brood frame emerges, there comes about 3 frames of bees.
