Comb on frames sticking together?

If you are using castellated spacers like that then those are meant for honey supers, not brood boxes. The spacing is too wide for brood frames
Not if you are using eleven frame castellations - then the spacing is perfect

I hate them in the broods but you're right, there's a knack to using them. Doesn't Roger Patterson run his colonies with castellations?
Many do - Pete Little swears by them. A lot think that modern Hoffman frame spacings are a few mm too narrow hence use 11 frame castellations as you get better quality drones

I found the 'knack' readily becomes the norm as in most or all beekeeping practice. Think I read RP uses them too and he surely definitely knows what is what. Another minor advantage from my point of view is that the predetermined spacing obviates mucking about with dummy boards. There might be a slight risk of inducing extra brace comb but for me that problem is not significant. Have some DBs just in case but never use them other than in my 5 frame high domed nuc box. Hoffmans don't fill the space enough without.

More space for the fat bastxxds???? Agree about the hoffmans but with castellations you don't need to use them anyway. I do, my choice.

I'm glad to hear you say that as others put 12 frames into brood boxes or use 11+ dummy board, but I feel I'm having to force them back in and space 11 out with mine here at home.
