Why would that shock people. They are also honey packers.

Because their hazy rose-tinted knowledge is enough to remind them that Rowse is an English company, and pure English honey is what they want. The average consumer has no clue that Rowse are honey packers (doubt they even know the meaning of 'honey packer').

Quite a lot of Chinese honey comes through Thailand, on its way to somewhere else. Thailand's honey production appears to be in decline but the amount exported is increasing.

A common way of adulterating honey in this part of the world is feed large volumes of sugar syrup during nectar flow periods and then extract the uncapped 'honey' on a weekly basis. The weaker the annual nectar flow is, the more prevalent this practice seems to become.
