Not beekeeping, but I imagine many beekeepers keep hens. Do we have any idea of the road map for chickens coming out of bird flu lockdown?

Every time I go up to their enclosed run at the end of the garden, they all look up and me and ask “when are you going to let us out to trash the garden?” 😢. I did a search the other night but couldn’t find any information. Just one outbreak notification received in the last few weeks so hopefully soon.

It won't be until there is little or no chance of more transmission. There won't be a roadmap, like our lockdown, it will just end.

The previous one lasted from December 2016 until May 2017. So they could have to wait until May.

However, given that APHA have issued very few alerts in last week or so, we may get lucky and it could be mid-march. But until APHA say so, its just a guess.

Whilst I have alot of hens, and its not the best for them being locked up, I'm just glad that farmed geese are exempt. I can't imagine having to keep them all inside, clean and tidy.

I thought I heard a date some time in late April but this was farmers talking at hereford Market.
We are wondering as we have 40 odd hens, Which have completely turned my tunnel upside down.

It is a chicken and egg situation... our flock of silkies are still under cover!

Enveloped the whole chicken run with small mesh bird netting so at least ours can pop out in the fresh air (they also seem to enjoy just standing around in the rain)

Ours chooks are spending alternate days in the greenhouse just for a change of scenery and so they can enjoy their dust baths. As soon as the seedlings need to go in the greenhouse they'll be out of luck and back in the run all the time though.
