ok so i wont look inside but i have bought a little snake camera so i can look inside with out opening it up. I just want to make sure they are there

Your dying to look inside, aren't you :)
Lie underneath the hive with a torch shining up through the OMF if you can't hear them through the wall of the box

You don't need an inspection tray to see removed capping of the stored honey if the hive is on a concrete base as any removed cappings will fall through the OMF onto the ground below. I rarely bother with the trays even in the coldest of weather and I don't lose colonies either. Fresh air is as good for them as it is for you!!
My hive is around 18in above the concrete base, so basically you are saying I will see the same on the concrete that has been lashed with rain and heavy NE winds that I would see if I used a inspection tray, not too mention the insects and mammals that would keenly clean any bits up fallen from the open mesh floor.

I know the feeling, just do as others have said and buy a cheap stethoscope that will put your mind at ease, go round all 4 sides up and down, you will find them humming away somewhere in there.
