aaaaaaghh

just looked at a stack of six supers i had overwinter wet outside in the garden because i was feeding fumidil b when i would normally have dried them off in the hives

but the top super had warped and let water into the stack......black mould all over the frames and in particular on the end side bar, unfortunately they are SN1 and i packed them 15 to a box ( ie without spacers)

so that's is 6x15 frames gone=. 90 sn1...hope the OSR hold off, i was converting to all SN4 so it will just bring it forward

or do you think i could dip them in dilute bleach and use them,i have scrapped off mouldy pollen before but never black mould all the the frames

absolutely not bleach. It spoils the wax.

virkonS is a right stuff to hadle this.

But you may scrab in cold weather the worst places and then let the bees handle the rest. Bees tear down spoiled wax.

it is better to put combs the lowest in the hive that the mould rain do not go over the brood area.

I would use Virkon S to kill mould.

Thanks

well, I see it kills foot and mouth and fowl pest...we will see if the local farm supplier has some in

still unsure whether to re use them though, might just bin them

I wouldn't honey out of those frames ..... Just replace the wax ..... Dave is right.... Why take a risk?
