Hi

Can anyone advise definitively the best aspect for siting hives, ( Dublin , Ireland ). All day sun from time it rises to time it sets would be optimal ?

Have a site on an allotment but hives to be sited behind a 12 foot green plastic light mesh screen think south west facing with high trees directly behind. Hives under branches reach, leylandii trees and branches are high up

So , even with Global warming is a fairly damp setting, though we did have a cracker of a summer in 2013.

Also the ideal height, material and distance from the front of a hive a screening fence should be ?

Thanks in anticipation :thanks:

Brian

Orientation is where within 360 degrees.

Whether a good site is another matter altogether.

Personally, I don't think an allotment is appropriate for you, but there that is my opinion.

Is screen between hive and allotment holders? That's good.
Height, optional, but for your back's sake a 2' hive stand is good.

If you can face the South/ south east ..good. Bees facing a barrier about 4' away will send them up to forage and not straight out, so use trees if pos. Otherwise tricky to say as really need to see to be accurate.
