So help me understand in basic terms how mainly sugar syrup stores behave capped and uncapped in a hive?.

I have frozen an extra frame...whats the storage without thymol?

I think ( hypothesis) that when bees take down sugar syrup to the frames to store they reduce the water content to below 17% so that is does not ferment... then cap it to seal it in for later.
Noticeably invert sugar seems to be taken down much more rapidly and stays uncapped for longer.

Frozen frames of stores.... will last winter and defrost and use next spring.
I would not put anything that contains thymol anywhere near any food I was going to eat....

Many thanks...eventide I do anything I'm wondering whether it was okay or whether I've doomed them to failure!!

Once capped, stores don't need to go in the freezer. They will stay fine for a long time - that's what they are designed to do!

From what I recall hee bee.. half was capped some wasn't. ..will this cause me problems?..

But freezing keeps off things likely to infest/eat it.
I don't see too many wax-moths or mice crawling around inside my freezer!:spy:
