Ely, there is plastic and plastic.

The polyhives by Swienty and others are impressive. The Swienty poly Langstroth is a real professional box.

The BeeHause is new and has yet to prove itself through a full season with bees aboard. It is a plastics build, but not polystyrene.

Just thought you should be given a perspective. :)

ok. thanks hombre

Nationals in a WBC

Just to confuse things further....

I was assured, on an earlier thread on this forum, that you can squeeze National brood boxes and supers into WBC lifts, hence getting 11 frames in.

So, if you were concerned about the small size of WBC BBs, you could fit a 14 x 12 National BB under your lifts.

But, as I understand it, as WBC and Nat BBs/supers are not interchageable, its a bit of a waste of a National hive, especially if your WBC kit comes with WBC BB and supers.

As mentioned earlier, the WBC 14 x 12 would appear to be the best bet if you are concerned about swarming.

The other option is to PM Hivemaker, he builds superb cedar hives and you can have one with a gabled roof,if you like appearance, they also come ready assembled, just need bees.
