Hi all

I'm 8 years in as a beek. I've been asked by a couple of my friends in the past few months about them starting the hobby. Only thing is I didn't learn from a book. I did refer to a few, as well as Youtube and websites. Mainly Ive learned from this very forum! Does anyone recommend a really good starter book though? What would you recommend for a good Xmas gift?

For a pre-bees readable book for someone thinking about keeping bees then Bees at the bottom of the garden by Alan Campion is a good starter. It's not a keeping bees textbook but it's an easy read which will give them a flavour of what it entails. A first beekeeping text book for a first year beekeeper I would agree.. Haynes is beekeeping by numbers... good to get you through the first year or so.

As a lovely Christmas present try Collins Beekeepers Bible. Not as in-depth as the Haynes book, but one far more likely to be of interest and read, if they then wish to get Bee's or take up the hobby they can get the other books.
