Bee Identification

I am not a bee keeper but there have been ver few bees in our garden until the other day. A swarm of bees were on some ivy growing on a wall. I enclose a picture of one. If anyone can identify it it would be appreciated.

Eristalis pertinax
A hoverfly
One pair of wings ( bees have two)
Big eyes ( bees are smaller)
No antennae ( bees have)

Not a bee, some sort of hover fly.

OK, thanks very much. We did have lots of hover fly's early last year but nothing until now.

In a few weeks, if you allow the ivy to flower it will hopefully be visited by all sorts of pollinators inc the Ivy Bee.
