I have 2 hives (nationals) with clear crown boards.

Yesterday after doing a full inspection of Queen Jude, I decided to have a quick peek through the clear crown board of Queen Sharon. The bees were hard working having nearly filled the first super. But my question is that whilst observing them I saw 3 bees doing very short wiggle dances 'on top' of the frames. Not the usual dances of running around in figures of 8 but just short bursts of wiggles in straight lines across the top of the frames. what would this mean? This hive is exceptionally busy. I'm just interested.

I believe that the lack of the figure eight in the dance, therefore turning it into a circular or possibly straight line dance indicates that the source of food is very close to the hive, e.g under 10 metres.

I could be wrong but I am sure I have read that somewhere.

Arr thanks for that. And I know the source too, my flowering cherry tree is located not far from the hive and is alive with bees.... Interesting thanks.
