Damn! A lot more than I ever thought I'd have
Just looked at the BBKA entry ticket costs for my mate, my cousin and I. Two are members my cousin isnt and the ticket cost as far as I can see is £60 :hairpull::eek::eek:

Have I read this right? £18 for members £24 for non members

But I only want to go for one day

Complete rip off

Beetradex last week was £4 in advance. It wasnt just a trade show, there were lectures as well.

BBKA are guilty of complacency, they need to wake up and smell the coffee.

I know of some traders who have had stands in previous years not bothering this year

:facts:Agreed - shocking ticket prices. The country is still in recession and they're taking advantage of us. I am only going on one day, and don't intend to visit any lectures or workshops. So just to get some bits and pieces it's a very expensive day. I will only do Beetradex next year.

There will be three less sadly.......

BBKA need to charge so much for the tickets as there was according to their accounts a £20,000 calender write off.

They need to recoup that money some how

For what you can get its actually very we'll priced. So many lectures to see and opportunities to discuss important things for just £18 for 3 days.

I think this is much ado about nothing. I'm pretty sure that these world class lecturers and facilities at Harper Adams' don't come cheap!

Not if you only want to go for a single day!!

I'm sorry, the price is the price.

If the demand falls then so will the price. If people agree with you then the price will fall.

Moaning about it will make absolutely no difference. IMHO.

There's no need to apologise M, I didn't think anyone was moaning. I was making sure I had read the information correctly which has been confirmed and I have confirmed the cost for a single day is too rich for my pocket. Enjoy your three days.

If they were clever there'd be a price for just accessing the trade bit and a price for the workshops, lectures, etc. but clearly they're not. Instead they're grabbing for all the pennies they can get. Why should I, who doesn't want to attend the lectures, subsidise those who do? And why did they invest in calendars? Who buys calendars these days?

but then why should they subsidise you buying cheap gear if that's all you're going for???

Why would you buy a bee calender from BBKA when you can get one free with the Beecraft subscription?

Dont get me wrong, I want the BBKA show to be successful

The problem is that because ticket prices are so high its opened the door to competition ie Beetradex. So we now have two shows where there probably is only room in the market place for one. This dilutes the traders between the two shows

People will vote with their wallets which could result in the demise of the BBKA show which would be a shame.

Some will vote with their wallets, but I think the BBKA show will survive anyway. Simply due to the number of lectures, workshops and the fact that it is a major networking event for bee clubs.

It could. But I would be very surprised if it did.

Reality check. 3 days of bee chat, some very interesting lectures and events, not a bad venue and some discounted stuff as a bonus. £18 entry equates to £2 more per day entry than BeeTradeEx.

I'll be going, as indeed will many thousands of others. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

What would you consider a fair price? (not that it matters to me as I consider that £18 is reasonable).

I went to Stoneleigh too and I will certainly be at HA to have a slice of the many different offerings.

I sympathise with those who cannot justify the additional travel costs from down South but hey, swings and roundabouts spring to mind.

So how am I being subsidised?

well you're asking for a cheaper price so you can pick up the cheap gear they sell at shows - I guess they set the prices to cover the costs of the lecture & training progran not just the trade show which you would hope pays for itself and more.

If you don't want to pay couldn't you ask someone to pick it up for you??
