I had some ‘spare’ queens and wanted to create a few Nucs to take through winter but the wasps had different ideas and just swamped them to get to the honey stores. So with only one queen left I’ve taken a bit of a risk and created a double queen hive.
The original hive has a good queen ‘downstairs’ with a queen excluder and a half filled super above (standard setup so far.) I‘ve introduced a second queen excluder, a sheet of newspaper and a new brood box above with the super with a second queen, drawn comb, and a couple of frames of brood with nurse bees from downstairs.
The downstairs hive is strong and can easily withstand the wasps + I’ve narrowed the entrance.
