]I would have supered 5 hives towards the end of last week but I forgot three queen excluders so one apiary will have to have its supers on tomorrow. The bees need the room as they are expanding fast but unlike other years not a great deal of nectar at the moment but it will change.?????????? not this week forcast a coldish week:hairpull:

Yes it could well be an action replay of summer 2012, for anyone who missed it.

Personally I would be happy with that not a bad last year for me.

Plenty of time and plenty of good weather to come me thinks although I do sympathise with beekeepers who rely on OSR.

It is not normally my policy to actually go out and shoot eminent bee breeders. I am reconsidering this in the light of that post! lol
I could take that personally LOL (The word eminent does'nt apply in any way)

3 hives have a super -one of which has partly capped frames.
The 4th hive with a 2011 Q just isn't building up enough - so I've decided to try buying a new mated Q tomorrow (hopefully BKS has one available?)

This morning driving through South Hertfordshire the yellow of the OSR fields was vibrant and the air had that pungent OSR smell, it was a nice spring day but driving back 4 hours later, i could not see anything yellow due to the mist, rain in the gloom. Everything smelt damp and of autumn not spring

let's not lose heart as Thames Water hasn't warned of a hose pipe ban, so maybe we actually might need one.....

Unlike last year when they were nearly on their 2nd, no supers yet on mine in far SW. I have added a couple of deeps to several so I can make some splits later this month though.

One single 14x12 nearly filled its first super, second will be on within a week.

Other is a combined, ie double, 14x12 and although there is a super on top with some nectar in it, I suspect they are spending most of their time trying to fill the brood areas.

They surely do.
If it is possible, you should take honey frames off from brood box and lift them to super. --- yes I know. Use brood box as super.

When we visited the ITLD coop apiary as part as an association visit, it was interesting to see he uses langstroth deeps as his supers. The reasoning was simple so he can can move frames and standardise on equipment. Lot of logic here. I didn't go down this route myself though as I preferred slightly lighter supers and didn't fancy spending the extra £'s on the extra (which i've not got yet).

I have a new colony which I got last month, they have RSO within 1/5 mile and are in a fruit orchard in a very large garden with lots of bursting pollens. No supers yet but they are storing honey and pollen and expanding rappidly.
Not sure when to put one on to be honest as lats year I didnt get to that stage.
