Dear forum members,
Please help me in my research. I need real samples of tree nests - minus the bees. if you are involved in the unfortunate destruction of a tree bee nest and can save a section of the wood that formed the nest please PM so that I can arrange to collect it.

Many thanks in advance. Derek

P.s. If at all possible please wrap the section in plastic sheeting as soon as possible after cutting as I need to preserve if possible the original level of moisture.

I think both Pete D and I will be able to help you with these.
I've got three cut outs on my list for Spring.
And silly season hasn't started yet !!

Many thanks ... At some stage I hope to be able to specify how to cut a small sample for testing but that's for the future. At moment it's kangoo van size please :)

Loverly. I will contact some friends in Oz. That should keep you busy for a while. Are there any trees on the Outer Hebrides? Could keep you 'out of our hair' hair for a few more days. Collection in person only, of course.

OUCH lol

I got called by one of my farmers today, a 30 foot Ish oak has torn out of the ground and a large nest had been found in the hollow trunk, waste of time the badgers had been there and cleared up, only went out of politeness as any bees would not have survived anyway, can offer you a section loaded by Manitou Derek, not sure how a kangoo would survive!

what ID OD are we talking here?

a 12" high cross section or a "pie slice" would be alternatives I need samples that have the inside to the out side composition intact so can
describe any differences in texture / density and can then measure the average density. The idea is to be able estimate the Thermal conductivity of the material.
