Seller on ebay as well but they do look to be sole UK distributor.

According to The Apiarist ; Apivar has the exact same active ingredients as Apitraz (Amitraz) so that may be worth considering? Paynes and BS Honey Bees both sell it (although out of stock) there are sellers on ebay.

Thanks Angry Mob - I was recently thinking about getting ApiVar. If this Apitraz stuff is pretty much the same then I'll probably get it from eBay. It's a lot more cost effective than ApiVar.

It was coming in fro abroad long before any U.K. suppliers had it. May be worth looking.

Are folks using the strips as well as oxalic acid treatments or as an alternative? Technically it would take a lot to beat the cost per treatment of OA (if you were allowed to use it without the branded packet of course).....:p

I’m still unhappy about putting such a pesticide in my hives. I did use a couple of strips in a colony that still had an enormous mite load after 7 vapes
Resistance to Amitraz is already being reported

An eBay listing claims that Apitraz is safe to use with supers on. Can anyone who has used it advise if that's true or not?

On the back of the packet it says "Do not use during honeyflow, and do not harvest honey during the 6 week treatment period"

I wouldn't

Better to wait 'til after harvest imo

Suppose its a case of what do you prefer, pesticides in your hive or rampant varroa :D

That's what I am trying this year (oxalic), fingers crossed!

All i use is Oxalic type stuff..however i also had a troublesome hive last year and still dropping lots of varroa after seven vapes..i bought a packet of Amitraz to go into that hive but the the large varroa drop stopped shortly after it arrived..it has been in the fridge unopened ready for this year if i have anymore troublesome colonies..

Is this the stuff I have heard can be found in foundation sold all over Britain?

Would you kindly point me in the direction of resistance to Apivar, as apart from anecdotal suggestions I've not heard of it being confirmed?
Thanks
S

Mike Palmer has mentioned it on the forum
If you google varroa resistance to amitraz there’s plenty.
Here’s one from as early as 2010.

A worrying scenario is because if the cost of the licensed strips many commercial beekeepers in Europe are mixing their own concoction from liquid Amitraz.
