Why would you be thinking of vaping after removing apivar?
Mite drop really high?

Mite drop really high?

Well itching to use the gasvape kit ... also just worried the strips might not have been totally effective (first year with them ... did I put enough in etc)... and run them as insurance really ....so not really counting the mites as I should so its more a belt n braces thought

You didn't observe mite drop when you put your strips in ? 2 strips per brood box for 6-10 weeks or there abouts I'm being liberal .
I wouldn't be doing another treatment unless the mite drop was of concern.
Earlier on in the autumn I treated with api-life var.
But because I didn't put the strips close enough to the cluster I had extensive mite drop still so I treated with apivar for 10 weeks , the mite drop is nil now. Even so a bit of a beekeeping mistake on my part.
I would access your mite drop first before treatment a second time.
My results from using apivar have been really good.

After using Apiguard trays for my first two years and finding them suddenly ineffective I used the strips last November and am delighted with the results. As I said a couple of posts ago, my mite drop has been nil for the last 46 days post-treatment and I was looking for some sort of reassurance that further treatment with OA trickling could be omitted this year and I have decided that I shall proceed that way. If I find a sudden increase in April I'll do an Apiguard job before the supers go on.

It must have been wonderful for beekeepers before these frigging mites arrived.

Each to there own I wouldn't be treating a second time unless there was a need to .
I know just because there's no mites on your inspection board it doesn't mean there's no mites in the hive .

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I said I wouldn't be treating again [this winter] and will only do so if there is a big mite problem in April.

No worries what's all this belt and braces about concerning using treatment for varroa fair enough give them extra stores / fondant there's no point over treating if there's no need .
If you've treated properly observed the mite drop before and after treatment , best to leave them if there's no mite drop .
Thanks for the clarification I read things a bit fast sometimes.

The odd hive or two always slings you a wild card..no mite drop does not mean they have no mites..i treated all mine the same and properly prior too winter all where good with no mite drop at the end of treatment then boom..a colony that previously dropped very little during summer treatment decided to drop a lot during winter treatment.. work that one out.. ;)
