Tghe issue with oxalic surely isnt its toxicity - we all know its present in lots of foodstuffs - but its aparant damage to the midgut of our bees


Do you have a source you can quote for this? I've heard a number of suggestions that OA is harmful, but no real specifics, and I'd be interested to learn more.

Not really.
Ther was the original Swiss ( ? ) recommendations advising against multiple treatments and there have been studies done showing treated colonies being a small percentage weaker on the whole the following spring having been drizzled in the winter ( Italian if I remember right but cant be sure and certainly cant be arsed to digg out a reference at this time of night ! ) but the most dammning evidence for me is personal obsevation of oxalic trickling being the final nail in the coffin to bees with dysentry - ok they may have died anyway but try it for yourself, death is pretty rapid for bees with both dysentry ( prob nosema ) and an oxalic trickle
