Ive got apiva life on at the moment with at least another 3 weeks treatment to go, trouble is a need to get some feed on as well, can anyone recommend the following,

I carry on with apiva treatment and feed at the same time

or wait 3 weeks and then feed, will this be to late for up north,

thanks everyone for your replies

If you wait three weeks they may be dead of starvation by then if there is not adequate stores. Heft the hive and see if it feels to light.

I am feeding and treating with Api Life Var and they are taking the syrup almost as fast as I can mix it!

not taking syrup

ive put my syrup on but they not taking it this afternoon on my inspection, it was absolutely chucking it down though, i guess they were laying low

what are you feeding it in, can be the type of feeder or no trail of syrup for them to find the feeder

I feed over the apiguard in this instance because the nuc needs building up for the winter. I place the apiguard on top of the frames cover this with a 45cm eke (riser board) and then place the rapid feeder on top of that so the central hole matches up with the central hole on the eke.

This is a new feeder knocked up from some scrap timber and holds about 4 ltrs syrup.

Below you can see the two peices of home made kit between the brood and empty super, when the bees have found everything I'll remove the super and place the lid directly over the feeder.

dead bees in feeder

i had a look today to find dead bees in the coned areas where they feed from so i clean them out and will try again, dont understand though why they arent on the syrup. Thats o good feeder you knocked up though.

Maybe the bees are not on the sugar syrup due to the cool weather, i just dont know.
