Bought an overwintered NUC 6 weeks ago...

Put it quickly in a full national box and then added a super a couple of weeks later....

Today's inspection: Saw a single capped QC on one frame... and pulled it off...its charged and ready to go....checked thoroughly for others...

I found the marked queen with her yellow dot so no one has disappeared yet..

Every fibre in my body tells me there is no need for an AS...the NUC has done well but there's bags of room....

But should I heed the signs and take action?

Not at the moment.....A single queen cell can mean nothing,a msitakeon the bees part.
The time to take action is when you next inspect (and if possible make it less than 7 days from your last)... if you now find several queen cell....might be a good idea to do something.

I take it you spotted eggs/young larvae before removing the queen cell. Queens can rarely suddenly run out of juice: and they were planning on superceding her?
I'm sure having spotted the queen she is likely to be still laying.

the hive is going full throttle, eggs, larvae, stores..i think even the world cup was on the BTV...everything you'd want....

Bee-friendly's advice was how I felt and what I would have done if I had'nt "phoned" you friends...

"Trust your feelings Jonny, use the force"

PS any newbies reading this...this whole gigs gets a ton easier if you have 3 or 4 hives instead of just 2...the different goings on, in different hives, really increases the rate of learning.
