Hello,

Just curious as to the reason behind this:
My bait hive is on a flat roof and there are about 10 bees flying around and there is lots of fighting - lots of dead bees all over the flat roof too. I am hoping some scout bees are protecting it while waiting for the swarm to turn up? There is nothing in there to rob as the frames and foundation are new. The actual hive is old though. Just a bit scared to get to close at present - so will leave it alone until i get suited up at the weekend.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

2 different lots of bees wanting to move in?

Sorry curry, can't comment as I've never heard of it happening before, gut reaction? Same as veg

I had once what I could only describe as two lots of scout bees fighting over a bait hive and it went on for approx four days before a swarm moved in. The fighting was getting so bad with plenty of bees flying around the hive I considered removing it or blocking the entrance. I never noticed any dead bees.

If the combs contain vestiges of stores ,the bees will scrap over this . Robbing bees will fight!

I had this on my bait hive about a week ago, two different coloured sets of bees were arriving and vying over defending the entrance... this went on for the whole day.... Its happened a few times but then dwindled off. I have a feeling that either they both found a better home or more likely their owners discovered their swarming tendencies and put pay to it.... Now back to square 1 and living in hope.... Which is what you should do I guess. On days with tens of bees flying in and out I really thought I was on to a winner but it only confounds the disappointment when nothing happens. I'm going to be more pessimistic about bait hives now ( I have 7 out) and if nothing happens then i've lost nothing.

Hi all,
I was hopeful a couple of years ago. Then it stopped and a got a swarm call from a neighbour six houses down from mine the day after telling me the swarm arrived yday. Now it was in his cavity wall!
Not got any bait hives out in case I need them to A/S my own hives. So, easy to miss a QC, but so far I have only had an egg in a queen cup twice from the same hive - my strongest.

I wouldn't hold my breath!

10 bees is no real interest. However, it is at least something.

Leave em to it and see what happens, they'll probably not leave home until we get some nice warm weather. :spy:

Thanks guys. Nothing so far. Thought it too good to be true :(
