I have a hive which was an absolute mess.
Was on two brood boxes and the second brood box had only 7 frames which I must have put on to let them clean up....and a mass of wild comb full of brood.
I smoked the box heavily to drive the queen out....hopefully and moved the brood box up above the supers with a QX below, so the brood could hatch out before I cleaned it up.
I went to have a look yesterday for the first time in 10 days and the top box was full of sealed queencells, there were eggs in the bottom box.
I have put some frames with 2 cells each into 2 nucs along with emerging brood and stores, a cell and some bees into a mating nuc and I have a couple of cells in a tupperware container in the airing cupboard.
Will check for eggs in the bottom box at the weekend, but I am hoping that the queen is still there. Lots of bees and very little honey!
So, I am thinking that I will get three hives out of the split, possibly four and if the cells in the cupboard hatch, I will pop them into a mating nuc too!
Not the disaster I thought it was!
