I have noticed some folk use abbreviation's in quite a lot of post's, is there a reason for this as i'm sure it could confuse some new member's learning beekeeping..

The abbreviations are used as a sort of shorthand, which you will pick up after a couple of months.

There is a Sticky that explains most of them - http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=272

but even that has duplications; for instance is a Queen Excluder a QX or a QE?

Have a read of the above sticky and see if what you're struggling with is explained.

there's always the option of a quick post asking: "What does 'XYZ' mean?"

There's no disgrace in asking a question (stupidity is not asking the question), but you will find that here just as in most specialist fields it can get a bit OTT.

XYZ in Finnish is "kolmiulotteisessa avaruudessa koordinoida".

(but don't ask me to pronounce that )
