Decided to check the comb occupancy this evening as last inspection had shown rapid drawing out of comb on the new foundation installed when the bees transferred to the hive from the nuc. At that inspection I had installed another frame of foundation.
Tonight all frames had been drawn out and Tiger Lily was exploring a freshly drawn empty frame. The other brood frames were well covered, heavy, with eggs, larvae and capped cells present. No queen cells to be seen and just a small number of drone cells.
A lot of stores with nectar, both clear and some a little darker with capped cells also plus some pollen
Put another two frames of foundation in as I thought if they are drawing comb they might as well make some more space for the future.
During all this my son was standing alongside and we were both impressed at how quietly the bees took the inspection. I am really pleased to have been supplied with such a gentle strain.
These Buckfasts live up to their reputation
