13 c in South Suffolk and bees getting a lot more active. Early Spring?

In Finsbury gardens (between Moorgate and Liverpool St) in the city and saw a bumble bee flying about looking busy !

Maybe it was the same one I saw at lunchtime, Chris, a mile or so North in Stoke Newington. Was it large and fluffy? Mine was buried in a large sarcoccca that was so perfumed it stopped me in my tracks.

Wigan, greater Manchester 11 degrees C here today all hives out and busy also first queen bumble found in the garden, would love to say it was flying around busy but it was found on the lawn by the dog, all wet and not looking too good.

Is the climate warming in the UK?

I think i heard that here in Aus it has gone up about 1 degree in the last hundred, with the last 50 at twice the rate of the first 50. It might not sound like much, but it has huge consequences apparently. It was 40 here yesterday, which was the second 40 degree day of the summer. In 30 years at the Bureau, the chief forecaster has never forecast 40 here before, but did so twice this year (and got it right both times). I felt unwell this morning from it, with not much cooling overnight.

We had a cool late spring early summer which put summer flowering back remarkably however, which was interesting.

Climate? Undoubtedly, but also weather has been warmer in winter for many years, and to see bumblebees flying in January is pretty routine in urban areas at this time of year. The early start reported - crocus and daffodil out and so on - is not something I've seen in north London, which is odd because London usually has a head start. Mind you, my neighbour has a 6' holly in full flower, sandwiched in front of his house next to the pavement. That is early.

Ha ha ... it looked a bit sluggish Eric and was headed south to Bank station when I saw it !
