    Wasps 2

This has been mentioned here before. Apparently it does not work, one beek said that it just gave the wasps somewhere to sit as they worked out there next move!!

    What's this grub??

Could it not be a wax moth grub the bees have disposed of?

    What's this grub??

What other grubs besides waxmoth hang around inside hives?

Recommendations for Innovative Beekeepers to Interview

I am sure I have left out many noteworthy beeks for which I apologise.

Recommendations for Innovative Beekeepers to Interview

what I have learned from this forum is that one person's innovation is another's heresy. However they are for the most part inspiring - they are your bees, you make your own decision.

    Bee swarm into tree hollow

Are you not worried about varroa? I was told that colonies in the wild would last three years at best without treatment.

    wasps

Thanks. I will put out some traps. The wasps seem to be kept at bay by this hive but I will keep an eye on the situation and if needs be more them. I am slow to do this as I won't be able to monitor them as easily and wasps may find them again.

    wasps

I have reduced the entrance, in what will soon be my only hive, as I have noticed a lot of wasps around (I have a failing hive that the wasps are entering) I was just wondering if I have done the right thing as the bees may need to ventilate the hive and the smaller entrance will become a bottle...

    failing colony

I would love to be absolutely sure it is Q- (with my luck the duff queen would win) and did intend to take a very good look before uniting. How long would they take to start a QC? as I also have the wasp problem and the robbing to consider, time is not on their side

Thanks for the advice. This will be my first time uniting colonies, any advice?

    failing colony

I split my hive to try and prevent a swarm - half the hive was brought to a friends. The other half, that remained, swarmed anyway ( I now know what I did wrong) I have brought back the other half and they are going well. What remained of the other half had QCs so I left them to get on with it...

under seige from angry bees advice please

I read in a recent post that a beek went armed with a water washing up liquid mix and as the bees attacked he was able to "reduce to taste" it seemed a bit radical but if you or your family can't leave the house...

under seige from angry bees advice please

The last time I p**sed off my bees while doing a split they were waiting for me for the next two days. My hives are a distance from the house but they had guards stationed about 30 yards from the hive so walking (running fast) past the hive became difficult.

    insulating hives

Thank you all for your thoughts and information. One thing I take from your somewhat heated debate Derekm and Finman is that you both agree that insulation is very important.

Wax moth: 5 larvae found on open mesh floor

I am sure someone more experience will be right along... My understanding is that strong colonies deal with wax moth themselves, it looks like the larvae are being tossed out by your bees.
