    Wax moth

During my inspection on return from my holidays I found one of my hives completely empty no bees! On lifting my frames brood and honey supers are covered in wax moth residue with live grubs. I plan to freeze all frames and clean boxes. Would you recommend treating all with blow torch and frames...

Busy bees at back of hive?

Just took a quick visual of my hive and there are lots of bees going into/outside the rear entrance to inspection board/OMF! Any ideas why this is happening, I took the inspection board out and there were lots of bees in there!! I know the bees can't get into the hive due to the mesh floor...

Can anyone tell me when is the best time to put my first super onto my BB? I am guessing that a queen excluder will also be required? There seems to be conflicting opinions on here! Thanks

    Advice please?

I have a situation where my hive has brood chamber but have normal shallow national hives, unfortunately my bees have built comb below the bottom bar of frames and there is a lot of hanging down comb that they have built! My questions are these. 1. What is the best way to deal with this? 2...

    Bizzie bees!

Just a quick one, just been to look at my hive. The entrance was very very busy, the sun is shining and warm! Should I have any concerns or is it just a great day to get out to work? There are lots of bees hanging around the entrance, only a few leaving and a few going off on their travels...

    Apiguard advice

I went to add my second treatment today and the first one was still pretty full after its two weeks! Should I add the second one or just leave the first one longer? I have no signs of mites! Thanks for your advice.

Anyone know what they could bee?

Just finished an inspection and found a kind maggot and four baby maggots on the inspection board under the OMF! They were all rolled up in the debris from the floor. Any ideas?

Brood being built on wrong frames!

I have recently been given a swarm by a friend in a nuc, but he only had normal sized super frames as an emergency measure. He transferred the frames into my new national hive and settled for a week. The hive was then transferred to my new hive location and left again to settle for another week...

    Hive entrance direction

Just a quick question guys!! I am about to position my new hives, it seems best for me to have them facing a south west/west position, this due to the restriction on the space available and is best for me but not necessarily the bees! I know south east maybe better but this will restrict my...

    Hive location help please?

Hi, I need some advice please? I about to place my first beehive and like most beekeepers have a choice! My friend has given me access at the end of his garden to a small piece of land. You have to go to the end of the garden and through a gate. Just through the gate is a flat piece of land...
