    What's going on

    The year seems to be racing ahead, our produce season has been compressed with lots of strawberries but in a short period, the Himalayan Balsam has started early and I see one of our hives has started throwing out drones. Have others noted a difference ?

    Two Queens ?

    Caught a swarm and rehoused in a 6 frame poly nuc. 20 days later moved into a hive and noted three frames of brood capped and uncapped and stores. There were opened queen cells on one frame and scuttling out of sight I noted two queens. Now one must be laying so how do I decide which one ?

    Pollen

    Our bees are still taking pollen in, various plants are budding. Are we in for a big shock ?

    Describing Honey

    Earlier this year we got the results of our honey samples sent to the Honey Monitoring Scheme, this for the year before. By far the largest percentage in the sample was Brassica i.e. turnip. Question is, can our honey be marketed as Welsh Turnip Honey and will we be overwhelmed by demand ?

    How Did That Happen

    Cleaning up some old frames, I came upon this one. Funny thing is it came from the hive complete with drawn foundation. Cleaned it up, rejigged it and fitted new foundation. The blame game starts, who made it up ?

    Autumn

    I'm getting worried, the leaves on our Elderberry tree have started to fall. If autumn is on it's way we may be in for a 7 months winter with all that that entails. We have Himalayan Balsam on the go and maybe Ivy shortly but then what ? It would appear that the seasons have shifted four...

    Chalk Brood

    Has the hot weather in UK increased the onset of chalk brood. I have three hives (not the strongest) with dead brood and a strong hive with nothing at all. Coincidentally all the hives have only a small amount of pollen. Could it be related ?
