    Wasps

I would guess they are coming for the food. I put some feed 2:1 syrup on the hive on friday. As we had a warm autumn the colony never really reduced in size, therefore they were getting through their stores really fast. Its all taped up now, I will leave it like this for 3 days and I will...

    Wasps

Hello everyone - its been a while since I have been on here. Quick question - I have wasps going in and out of my beehive. How can I stop them. They are down to 1 beespace and have been since the end of summer? I have closed it up with gaffer tape and will do so for a couple of days now...

    Info on cut comb

I joined the local beekeeping association and made a friend. He lent me his kit - well actually I went over to his house and helped him extract - we extracted my frames after. Job done. This year i am looking to buy an extractor for myself. I also did mostly comb honey last year - worked a...

    A swarm today

Sorry for hijacking this thread Maybe my definition of "Charged Queen Cells" is slightly wrong. They were more what I call Queen Cups - but they had royal jelly in then with some 3mm larve. The cells hadn't been elongated to full length, but i guess that was the next phase. its a bit...

Not heard anything yet from this side - Very nice day today mind (18 and sunny), so there must have been a few about today. I have seen drones in my garden, so that prompted me to check hives again on wednesday :)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

This is the colony I was debating the put the super on last week. Decided to add a new 14x12 BB and syrup and will will start Demaree at weekend (possibly) once they have drawn out some of the foundation. Brood on 9 frames, and lots of play cups - some with eggs in, but no royal jelly in any...

    Extractors - which one?

Hello, I am looking to get my first extractor this year - and I am unsure of what is good. I know I want radial and I know I want electric - we have our first child on the way in august, so my bee time will be more limited. So a good electric one will speed up harvesting time. I have seen...

What swarm prevention methods this year?

Thanks guys for all the comments. Interesting reading. So I am torn between demaree or pagdon. I have 14x12 Demaree - does the top brood gets full of honey during this process? If so what do you do with it? Pagdon - this doubles the number of hives. When would you reunite? Is honey crop...

What swarm prevention methods this year?

Hello, As there are various methods I thought I would see what people are doing this year. Are you either sticking with their trusty method from last year, or are you going to try something different this year. I am gearing up for Artificial Swarm, but would love to hear others views and...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

If you cover up a hole then stuff cant get through - simple really when you apply some simple physics and some some common sense :) Please can you point me to your source of information as to what scout bees prefer and what how bees can manage air flow - I would like to read that. also - by...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

not really as it reduces ventilation - which does not help other problems like chalk brood. So its not as simple as you say. Also, mine eat the polystyrene and make holes in it where the crownboard holes are, so I take the fact that they dont like it there during spring/summer etc.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

This is all well and good, but its peoples opinions and opinions differ. The experienced beekeeper I refer to is a master beekeeper, has written books on beekeeping and is a doctor. So someone I trust implicitly. The beecraft mag said to add an empty super before winter and you (and others...
