Have you used Agreb plastic frames (from MB)?

I did not like the brood pattern as each frame was neither all brood or stores and whilst being lighter you still had to lift the whole box of to get to the next one down, with just using a deep you don't need to lift unless double Brood.

    Swienty poly Langstroth - Beespace

Both the Swienty and MB appear to have the same demensions with 5mm top bee space and this applies to both wooden and plastic frames I have used. The bottom bee space is 5mm with the plastic frames and 2mm with the wooden ones (Th*****) so taking 3mm from the runners may not help. Snoop, does...

How long can you have hives closed up

Thanks everyone for the replies. Water is going down now as almost as fast as it came so should be able to put 2 or 3 back in the original position tomorrow. They all have OMF and all except one sound quite, I could take them to another site I have but it appears that rodents (or woodpeckers)...

How long can you have hives closed up

I had to move my hives 30ft tonight due to flood water. How long can I leave the entrance sealed as there is more rain due and it's unlikely that I can put them back for a few days or would I just be better moving them away for a while?

Using a Burco Boiler for wax melting

I've got hold of an old Burco Boiler and read the post's about just putting all the wax in and melting. I have an Aluminium cooking pot that fits in a treat and would rather use an indirect method of melting the wax as it may be easier to keep clean. Is there any reason for not using Aluminium?

    Plastic frames

Why not try one super with them? I use about 50% of supers with them, they don't get damaged when extracting, easy to clean. They need a coating of wax which is done with a roller and some melted wax, good description of how to use at pierco.net

    Painting inside of poly hives?

I don't paint inside and the only bit they have nibbled is the top of the feeder near the perspex cover.

    Woodpeckers + polystyrene

I have 2 types of Poly hives and it was only in the very cold spell last winter that a green Woodpecker started to try first on the roof then the sides and entrance. Interestingly it just passed the MB ones and had a go at the Swienty ones. Started with chicken wire across roof and sides but...

    Buying an extractor: advice needed.

Got a stainless manual one from Park Bee keeping Supplies. Stainless is very easy to clean, I made the mistake of saying it was for Langstroth but the super frames were MD and did not fit (they took it back and I got the next size up). There is a ball bearing in the bottom that you need to keep...
