    Disc Entrance QX too small.

There is no recessed entrance just a hole in the wall, and it did indeed come with the PBF nucs. The entrance disk seems identical to those on T's website. I placed another QX over the whole where it will stay for a day or two.

    Disc Entrance QX too small.

lol yes absolutely. I will try another disk, but my guess is it is the bees who are a little big.

    Disc Entrance QX too small.

I attended a swarm earlier and knocked the bees into a 6 frame poly nuc with one of these disk entrances: Upon arriving at the new site I set the entrance disk on QX to prevent absconding and watched. The bees tired really hard to come and go via the QX but try as they might they could not...

    Urban Inspections

This one is often overlooked. Try to get a good reliable plume of smoke going before delving in. I agree, life is much, much easier with clipped queens in the city. Also useful I find for longer inspections when required, is to move the Brood box(s) to one side even if just by a few feet...

    Queen Marking

I painted this Queen with a Posca last June. She still has her white blob. I buy my Posca pens off of ebay for a few quid.

    Swarm Collecting

I use a nuc box. If collecting from high up on a ladder I hold a building waste bag under and round the swarm where possible, shake/brush as many as I can into the bag, hold the bag closed and come down the ladder and tip the bag and shake into the nuc and quickly close the lid. The nuc then...

Can anyone tell me why my smoker always goes out!

:iagree:A powerful self igniting blow-lamp works wonders and is a brilliant time saving investment. I use hay, and dead wood with a couple of pine cones in the mix as fuel.

    Swarm Ownership law.

Thank you Thorn, this is actually quite fascinating. The law seems to take a common sense approach here, and it is possible that Eric does in fact have a case to answer given that the bees were followed and we were not in any way prevented from collecting them on public property, meaning that...

    Swarm Ownership law.

Yes thanks, neither did I. How often does that happen I wonder?

What have you learned on the forum this week

rofl, Sounds like a ditty, here: Some bloke called Joseph had a swarm.. Eric took them away. Joseph didn't put up a fight, and complained another day, Eric doesn't give a toss, to some peoples dismay, But when Eric's himself lost a hive, he too did cry mayday. Along comes Nick who got...

    Win an I Phone?

Run combofix on your pc from bleepingcomputer dot com, that will probably fix it. Or hijackthis failing that.

    Swarm Ownership law.

Of course they could have flown off, but it was unlikely so late in the day and that was a risk I was willing to take in the interest of not creating a huge commotion. As I have said I do clip, and this is why this was a prime swarm headed by a virgin queen. I had left 2 QC's, usually they...

Where do you get your honey jars from?

I found others to be more expensive than were CWyne J who are very helpful and have lovely welsh accents too.

    Swarm Ownership law.

That adds another dimension, but what if you HAD been there, and had decided to collect at a better and safer time with members of your family watching the site to dissuade any bee-keeper from taking the swarm before he commenced his work, and had actually asked the guy not to start his...

    Swarm Ownership law.

Because you never know how people will react to you keeping stinging insects right close by. When I started up, I was taught that out of sight and out of mind is the best way to keep bees in London or every was nest and wasp in the vicinity becomes your fault.

    Swarm Ownership law.

To be honest I too am rather tired by this topic on here, but I will respond to Nick. So there was some discussion as to why Eric was taking bees that had come from our hive? Nick, Eric here says that it was never established that the bees were actually from my hive, yet you too testify that I...

    Swarm Ownership law.

Two years, two years. This happened in 2010!! I wrote about this once the day after the event in 2010 because I was genuinely interested in the law, which raised an interesting discussion on the law, and the law is apparently quite unclear. Cue Eric in 2012, with his post on one of his...
