    storing 1-1 sugar syrup

    Hi- Just wondered if I can store this in the freezer. I made some up but realise I dont need it yet. Otherwise - how long does it keep in the fridge? Thanks Nuala ps there may already be the answer on the site- Im still searching.

    Children and bees

    Hi- I let my son watch a short inspection when he was about 4, I put an adult bee jacket on him- tied knots in the arms, put a belt around his hips (tight) and he wore his wellies with his trousers tucked in. The jacket almost touched the floor and he looked a little strange with the arms...

    collapsed hive

    cheers guys. I will move them to a nuc asap and add brood at a later date. Weather very warm here in Southampton today (23oC)- and I noticed bees flying into this hive bringing pollen. There were two frames of bees yesterday. They are on a OMF - so will change this. Thanks again for advice Nuala

    Hi- sorry if there are previous posts about this- but just wanted some advice. As above 16oC down here in southampton- thought Id do a quick check on my 3 hives. 2 had busy bees bringing in pollen, one had bees carrying out dead bees :( . Looked inside this one- there were the first 4 frames...

    Cleaning a brood box

    Hi guys- about to change my brood box which has been in use since I first got my swarm - two years ago. Its pretty gunky with propolis and stuff (not sure how to describe the 'stuff'). What is the best way to clean it? I know I have to scorch it afterwards before using it again. Thanks Nuala

    help!! High varroa still......

    many thanks Wow- so many replies already (and I only posted last night!!). This forum is ace- its the first time Ive used it..... plus I read the post for new people about getting conflicting advice!! Can I just say a huge thank you to everyone who posted- I feel a lot more happy about my bees...

    help!! High varroa still......

    Hi- Im a beekeeper in southampton with two hives. After treating with Apiguard in August, and then Oxalic Acid at the end of December (during a slightly warmer spell tho it then went cold again)- Ive just done my monthly varroa check and its still high. One hive has a mite drop of over 6 a day...
