When does it warrant to feed pollen party's.

just given pollen patties to two nucs which are recently established. Both queens have started laying. I can see that there are not enough bees to forage in proportion to the new bees recently hatched plus the amount of eggs, and capped brood. The weather has gone cooler so I have fed both...

Welcome Most local bee keepers associations meet up every month in the summer and go to a 'hive opening' at one of their apiaries. Take a look at where the local group is for you and ask if you can go along.

    Chickens

I've had chickens and hives in my garden now for 4 years with no problems. In fact the chicken can be helpful in eating up those slugs that find their way into the hive when the weather is wet. I have heard that chicken will eat up drone brood left out for them, but mine are too fussy and...

    Lye Solution

I was told to clean poly hives with washing soda. not caustic soda, which is a corrosive acid. Be very careful if you use this as it is highly toxic and can burn your skin off quickly. Should anyone be tempted to use caustic soda, please read the instructions carefully.
