    Do you fit mouse guards?

Mouse Excluders: Absolutely… Bee storage shed has row of Nucs 8 feet to left and row of hives 8 ft to right ... Common-or-Garden traps: 43 mice and one Rattus to date (3 weeks) ... most recent racked and stacked for cremation today. So possibly advantageous to have the excluders… Point of daily...

    September Supersedure

Have x 4 Sealed Queen Cells… I believe the supersedure title is overused where the reality is swarm preparation… However, as we enter September, I imagine it is indeed a genuine Queen change … bit late, so fingers crossed but does it remain advisable to knock the surplus cells or simply let...

'Where are the Wasps?' .... They are all over here in my aperary :) .... from zero to nuisance and there I was feeling sympaty for them ... that has evaporated somewhat as never had so many probing the hives and still pulping to boot.

    Where are the wasps?

Ahh the wasps are back. Following me about the apery like loyal dogs 🐕 and slipping over shoulder to frames.. oddly scraping wood from shed.. would have thought nest building complete for season. Despite their nuisance value I'm sorta pleased to see them as neigh on zero sightings over the season.

    Where are the wasps?

Similar experience over this way... Queens a plenty in early season. Some wood scraping to start with but only one worker since.

Bait Box... Tyre kickers or seriously interested punters?

Many thanks Do224... Much as I thought. The context suggest stragglers (scouts) left behind from swarming sisters... hopefully will vanish and not deter other interested parties. Hope you have a good season.

Bait Box... Tyre kickers or seriously interested punters?

Bait Hive on shed roof; last week attracted some interest. I use it as a warning system of bees becoming restless in the apiary. However, since then, there has been about 30 or so bees at the entrance, engaged in cleaning and clearing out a Lemon Grass paper strip. Not much flying or other...

2-3cm ... varied... will be back as some hives tomorrow and if they are about will measure... They are welcome to live with the earwigs over CB if not destructive... Odd have not come across them previously... Look forward to positive id.

Larva: Any idea what this is??

A few of these pinkish larvae are appearing over the crownboard on some hives ... Any idea as to what they might be? My fingers are crossed not Wax Moth... Bees coming up via CB Feed Hole went for one with vigorous stinging and pulling apart... I've not witnessed them previously.

    Heather Honey Shelf Life.

Thank you, JBM, and congrats on your success at the RW. Eric, I was specifically interested in Heather Honey. I am aware of the reported incorruptibility in certain contexts of mainstream honey and the acceptable water concentrations influencing its marketability. That said, many Beeks apply a...

    Heather Honey Shelf Life.

Does Heather Honey (HH) have a shorter shelf life than main stream honey?? I have been informed on two occasions that it goes off after approximately a year. Can the HH folk here advise if this is true?? Didn’t have HH here up to last season and was unexpectedly left with 75Kg … not easily...

Volume of soapy water necessary to terminate a colony?

Many thanks for replies/advice. To alleviate some concerns arising, it is not my intention to wantonly destroy a colony of bees. In my years as a Beek it has never been necessary. I have had some beasties in the past and it is practice to requeen and yes betimes by moving a distance and...
