    What did you do in the Apiary today?

    Yesterday two strong colonies got 1kg of fondant on the top bars..in the few years I have had bees this winter is the most I have had to feed.

    I payed £120 for mine 5yrs ago and it is still going strong..it was advertised as a four frame extractor but I modified it to take eight shallows and four deeps..I have also modified it again and changed it from manual to electric which cost me £20 for a speed controller and forward and reverse...

    Horses, birds and where to buy new equipment

    For some reason my bees do not like the horses in the field next to my hives..maybe it is because they stink..if they get too close when i am working with the hives they get stung and take of at a rate of knots across the field..as for swallows the farm nearby used to get a gathering of 50+...

    Underfloor entrances difficult to exit

    I made four of them floors that are in the garage in case of emergencies..i stopped using them for the above reason which is made worse if rain has got onto the porch entrance causing bees to be stuck upside down by there wings.

    In warm weather yes..i pulled a inspection tray out today and a big fat Queen Wasp shot out..each season throws a different wild card at us..she was eating chewed fondant on the inspection tray that the bees had dropped..she will have got her sugar fix for now but the next few weeks of cold...

    Cracking Picture..i trudged through a swamp today to the willows expecting to get some nice pictures..i ended up clarted to death in mud and the willow is not even ready..:hairpull:

    Queen Cells in Spring - Argh

    I find Virgin Queens easy to spot it might take a couple of sweeps of the frames but i find them eventually..the ones i have trouble with are scrub un mated Queens the size of workers..now them are a challenge but i usually get there in the end..

    Did you find your Queen or any of the virgins ? ..the reason i ask is some colonies often start making Queen cells and then chance there mind and often remove them.. i see supercedure mentioned a few times on this thread but how do you actually know it is supercedure..i have seen no concrete...

    Hive at it's new home and fondant put on five that feel a bit light..all hives are piling yellow and gorse pollen in as though they where panick buying..
