    Honey source question

I'd thought that but no crop within 2 miles of us that I know of.. plus I heard oilseed sets rock hard - this is soft and almost spreadable.

    Honey source question

Hi, We took some frames off hives this year (late May) which I assume would be spring honey. Variation in colours and flavour has always been noted but this year the honey is the palest and most subtle in flavour we've had in 4 years, but what is surprising is it is setting reasonably quickly...

    Uniting colonies with supers

Thanks, so if I read it right I could do - from left to right; Q+ bb, QE, Q+ super(s), paper, Q- bb, Q- super(s) or Q+ bb, paper, QE, Q- bb, paper, ALL supers ?

    Uniting colonies with supers

Hi and apologies if already spelt out, but any advice on how to unite Q- and Q+ colonies that both have more than 1 super on and busy. Add the Q- broodbox above the supers on the Q+ colony? And leave Q- supers on Q- brood box? Where does the paper separator go? Leave for how long? Thanks

Thanks Enrico. Do you/can you drill while the floors are in situ ? Or do you switch out then drill and replace?

Have seen this mentioned a number of times recently and weighing the merits. Easy to use with hives floors that have landing boards? Has anyone used this with a WBC ? The exit nozzle is short and any extension seems likely to crystalise the OA ? Thanks

What would you do? Advice please.

Hives are wood, so would flaming them be good enough? I suppose can burn the wax and bees rather than digging a hole?

Same situation. Mine is parent hive of AS also. Sounds like killing off is advice. Are you destroying the kit too? What to do with the stores? Harvest?

What would you do? Advice please.

Swarm control was as follows; when QC seen, queen plus 3 frames of bees put in nuc and moved away. Remaining QCs reduced down to 1. Aside from removing floor, with no brood/eggs seem would you introduce new Q ? And what to do about stores? Harvest?

What would you do? Advice please.

Hive that swarm control was performed on; queen plus frames into nuc and all but one QC torn down after 7days - this was 20days ago. Recent check - no sign of brood/queen, bees working in supers BUT noticed signs of CBPV. Shaking bees and the dark abdomens but no signs of mass deaths. Think...

    Fermented wet frames

Great, thank you. Was not looking forward to burning a whole load of drawn out frames.

    Fermented wet frames

Hi all Is there any coming back for fermented smelling wet super frames? Did a spraying of dipel before putting them away and may have been too quick in packing them up. I seem to recall that fermented stores is not good at all for bees. Thanks

    Colony losses, surviving queens

Not enough to make a determination. Literally a handful of bees left.

    Colony losses, surviving queens

I have a situation where one colony dwindled down to not enough bees to sustain itself (was at an out apiary and farmer moved them a few times whilst we were away on holidays so I imagine stress etc), but the queen is still around (2022 Queen) and was laying well into winter. What are my options...

    Smaller scale wax melting

Any advice/suggestions for a decent electric wax melter for small(er) scale cappings melting for 5 to 7 hive keeper? Also best place to get wax block moulds ? Thanks

    Re-queen during treatment

Hi, Looking to requeen a couple of colonies due to temperament. Currently mid treatment (Apiguard). Is it ok to do an instant re-queen while still treating ? Conscious time dwindling for access to mated queens. Thanks

    Instant requeening

    Thanks

    Instant requeening

Apologies if this has been fully covered before, but I have a couple of hive that need requeening due to temperament, and I’m short on time. I think i have read that new queen can be introduced immediately old one is removed. Does that literally mean insert new queen in introduction cage in same...

    Hive lost to wasps.

Colony had swarmed and new mated queen was a DLQ, so brood and bee numbers were low. In hindsight was probably only big enough for a small nuc by the time a new queen and frame of emerging brood was added. Entrance was reduced to 1-2 bee spaces. To my mind wasn't disease related, just weak, lack...

    Hive lost to wasps.

Just got back from hols to find one of my hives killed off and taken over by wasps. Was a weak hive but had reduced entrance and the Wasp-out entrance thing fitted. Gutted, but one more lesson learned. Question is should the frames be destroyed ? Can they be used again? Anything I should do to...
