X3 Test frames without QC's- What next?

It tells me that she needs finding PDQ and squishing.

X3 Test frames without QC's- What next?

This hive is full of old bees, except the brood from the test frames. If you unite them you are just giving another hive a load of old bees to feed. If you need to save the hive / colony you could give it a few frames of sealed brood and a laying queen. If you don't need it, write it off...

    Bee inspector

Bee inspectors look for foul broods and exotic pests. They might advise you that your varroa load is high but wont do a sugar shake

Swarming adventures with flow hive in France and lessons learned

Instead of a frame of honey try a frame of brood to keep the swarm in the box.

    Patience is key

The queen discussed above is not a drone layer. This post is aimed at those who announce they are queenless or have a duff queen a couple weeks or so after she has emerged. Its advising them to be patient for another week or so, its not advocating 6+ weeks.

    Patience is key

3-4 days, week at most. I normally look a week after she has been released by the bees from the cage and see eggs and larvae. Had one once that the cage wasn't opened enough and she was still in, all OK a week later. These are normally my own that have mated in Apideas and introduced to a nuc...

    Patience is key

Beekeeping teaches you many things but without doubt one of the biggest things it has taught me is patience. I had a queen emerge 1/5/16, verified at the car boot hive session in the afternoon. I have checked on the 25/5 and 4/6 for brood and seen none. I remained patient having done the sums...

    EFB, anyone confirm this

Heard yesterday that the BBKA hives at Stoneleigh have EFB and the general husbandry assessments this weekend have been rearranged. Have I missed it on here or is it just tosh.

    Funny advert

Bet it wasn't an over wintered one with last years queen though. My point was that at this stage of the season nucs are available with this years queens. Overwintered nucs will have outgrown their box 2 months or more ago if they were healthy and building up normally.

    Funny advert

Just seen an advert on a beekeeping facebook page for overwintered nuc'c with 4-5 frames of brood, £170 each, posted today. I might be wrong but shouldn't a healthy overwintered nuc be in a full brood box with supers and giving a crop by now..........mine are ! There are lots of swarms about...

Slow bees this year, or just mine

Not too bad in this neck of the woods, supers a few weeks back, extracted last week and again tomorrow, nucs made up................, not as good as 2014 but better than 13 or last year at the moment.

    14x12 nucs or Standard nucs.

I sell about 3 stds to every 1 14x12, guess it depend on your area, what people get shown when starting and how / where you advertise.

    Beekeeping Car Boot Sale

Good couple of hours on a Sunday morning. About 15 'car boots' selling all sorts of beekeeping stuff. Several people had put odd bits in and shared a stall. Plenty of bargains to be had, all bits and pieces that you think I need that and a few years later have never used. I got 4 unused Apideas...

    Scout bee spotted?

Your friends hives are 4-6 weeks ahead of mine, but maybe that's local climate etc. I haven't looked in any of mine yet as the weather has not been good enough. When I do I am not expecting to see any drone brood. I tend to look at hives as a whole and one with drone brood and queen cells right...

    Scout bee spotted?

Generally need drones before any swarming can take place. As others have said, just a bee picking up on the smell.
