    This has been mentioned here before. Apparently it does not work, one beek said that it just gave the wasps somewhere to sit as they worked out there next move!!

    what I have learned from this forum is that one person's innovation is another's heresy. However they are for the most part inspiring - they are your bees, you make your own decision.

    Are you not worried about varroa? I was told that colonies in the wild would last three years at best without treatment.

    Thanks. I will put out some traps. The wasps seem to be kept at bay by this hive but I will keep an eye on the situation and if needs be more them. I am slow to do this as I won't be able to monitor them as easily and wasps may find them again.

    I have reduced the entrance, in what will soon be my only hive, as I have noticed a lot of wasps around (I have a failing hive that the wasps are entering) I was just wondering if I have done the right thing as the bees may need to ventilate the hive and the smaller entrance will become a bottle...

    I would love to be absolutely sure it is Q- (with my luck the duff queen would win) and did intend to take a very good look before uniting. How long would they take to start a QC? as I also have the wasp problem and the robbing to consider, time is not on their side

    I split my hive to try and prevent a swarm - half the hive was brought to a friends. The other half, that remained, swarmed anyway ( I now know what I did wrong) I have brought back the other half and they are going well. What remained of the other half had QCs so I left them to get on with it...
