    Top bar

Hi, I am no expert, but I do have a top bar... Generally I check a few bars from edge in to make sure I see stores / brood, and make sure the comb isn't attached to the sides of the hive so it is easier to pull them out without breaking. Other than that I have left mine. Not too sure how you...

Q- Hive, any prospect of introducing a bought in Q now?

I managed to introduce one on Tuesday... It was quite difficult to find a queen online though, most places are sold out now. I had her in the travel cage for a day, then took a risk and let her out. She just walked into the hive... Sent from my GM1903 using Tapatalk

    Angry Hive

Yeah you are right. Checked my records, and I went in after 8 days to make sure they had got through the paper. It was during the wet weather, so maybe that affected them.

    Angry Hive

I second this....having just lost a good queen who was in a nuc when I combined with a queenless angry hive. She was laying well, then within a week was gone. Now I am letting them die out / weaken significantly before I risk another queen.

    Dealing with hell

I had a similar situation. Angry hive which killed 2 purchased Queens. I finally got them Q+ by doing the following. Made up a nuc (frames from hot hive and 2 others, thinking here was that the 2 other hives will be much more likely to accept the queen). Added a new purchased queen and push in...

    Caddon hives

I have purchased 2 from them in the last couple of months. Both cedar, happy with both...

    Very angry hive

Yes. It could just have been a bad day for them, and I made it worse. Today they were fine. I will see how they are next week.

    Very angry hive

Just to update this... Went through the bad tempered hive today, and they were completely different. Back to the easy going bees we had before. Really odd. Maybe when we first opened them up and noticed they were tetchy, we should have just closed them back up for the day. Will see what...

    Very angry hive

2nd or 3rd Gen buckfast. They had a buckfast queen in last year, she swarmed and then they reared their own queen late in the season. This is the first time they were opened since this. Few stragglers today have chased me up and down the garden. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk

    Very angry hive

Thanks millet. They were moved last night, 2.5 miles as the crow flies, and a number have found their way back today. I have left an empty hive where their hive was and will close that up tonight. Hopefully fewer will be around tomorrow. I think a number of nucs might be a good option. As an...

    Very angry hive

Thanks for the advice. They have been transferred to an apiary 3 miles away. I will leave them there for a week to work out how to proceed. My current plan is to move the entire apiary down to the bottom of the garden, and point them out into the fields at the end (garden is 150m long and...

    Very angry hive

They went for my boots mainly, and I did get stung on them last week. They have now been washed. Suits will go in the wash too. No strong smells on me, or neighbour. Just spoken to a local Beek and will find out if we can get them moved, requeened and then moved back. If not, I can move them...

    Very angry hive

Thanks for the replies. I have just been out myself and stung again. They are at the bottom of a long garden in a quite secluded spot (my neighbour was unfortunately at the bottom of his garden earlier too) . So not a major risk to anyone else, but they definitely need to go. My wife seems to...

    Very angry hive

2nd year of beekeeping and overwintered two hives. Today was our first fully inspection of the hives. Hive 1 completely fine. Lovely. Hive 2 was a nightmare. This hive was a captured swarm from hive 1. With a locally mated / natural queen... We opened the hive, and they were angry from the...
