I bought some fondant from Simon the bee person from eBay but the bees have gone through this. I've just bought a pack from Tesco and it contains all sorts of stuff. Palm oil, humectant whatever that is, emulsifiers, stabilisers and flavouring. Is this ok to give the bees? I think I'll make some next time.

humectant is used to retard the loss of moisture, also found in the likes of hand creams. flavorings in fondant ? sure you not got a pack of flavored fondant ?

bakers fondant is just sugar, glucose syrup and water

Bees will probably refuse it..they have more sense than humans regarding food. personally would buy proper fondant and not the stuff sold in supermarkets.

It's described as Tesco ready roll fondant icing. It's pure white no sign of any flavours. Tastes normal. I think I'll just make some next year. It'll be interesting to see if they eat it.

Expensive way to buy fondant. Try your local baker. 12.5 kg for £14. I know others on here get it cheaper, but that is the price he asks and is convenient. Making your own in any quantity is too much hassle for me.

If you need some in a hurry blitz granulated sugar in a processor then add it to a little water. A teaspoon of vegetable oil will improve its feel and won't harm the bees

I'll make some I think. I can't hammer a nail in straight but I can cook.

The last lot i used i made myself so i know exactly what is in it, 2kg of sugar/ 50grm of Liquid Glucose and 600ml of water, it took me around half an hour to knock up, the hardest part is stirring it when it starts cooling down but i do not find it difficult.

Had a go once trying to make fondant a lot of effort for a few kilos.
Bought 12kg from Baco for £15 and the bees love it!

A few years back I was caught short, fondant-wise, and so bought some of the Tesco's fondant icing to try. My bees wouldn't touch it, but you may have better luck. It's a bl##dy expensive solution, mind. Baker's Fondant is much cheaper. Damp-set sugar is cheaper still - my girls seem to prefer it heavily laced with vinegar.

They also like salt. Salt AND Vinegar ? Think I'll try 'em on mushy peas next ...

Nice pink colour and bees love it!

Well I've made some with sugar, water and glucose. You just need a cooking thermometer and to keep it all contained as you do it, but it looks and tastes like fondant. I'll leave it in the fridge for a while as it's a bit soft at the moment.

You should not have to put it in the fridge, the stuff i make setts at room temperature similar to what it should be when given to the bees, it is similar in consistency to marzipan, mind you the first batch i ever done was not boiled for long enough so enough water was not evaporated which caused it to leak syrup all over.
