I noticed a few wasps sniffing around the hives this weekend.
I have broken out the wasp traps.
Hopefully the wasps will be less successful this year........

I always get them at this time of year - they are focused on taking away the dead bodies outside the hive rather than causing trouble.

I had an episode of robbing and the wasps turned up to join in the fun. And a couple wandered into my shed too today. I think the traps may be coming out although it definitely is early.

Too early.

As mentioned it is more likely that these are hunting wasps looking for easy protein sources for their brood. That said you may have the odd nuisance sweet feeding wasp displaced from a treated nest. We are getting reports now of more wasp nest eradication particularly from the pest control industry.

At this time best just to observe. Wasps are rarely a serious problem before the end of July.

I notice one wasp trying to get into my Maisemore nuc, but my mini swarm saw it off. However, I think that they have been nibbling some paint off it, so I shall observe this afternoon. Oh, and a European hornet was hawking as well.

I was at the WWT Arundel today and watched for a good five mins while a wasp went round the flowers on a plant collecting nectar, I have never seen this before so was watching with enjoyment.
