I really enjoyed listening to Dan Basterfield's talks at the UBKA Conference on Saturday. As with the comments/postings here on the forum, it is always good to learn from the experiences and inherited wisdom of bee farmers and those with experience of working with large numbers of bee stocks. Dan - thanks for taking the time to chat with me.
I also enjoyed Gavin Ramsey's contributions and Lorraine McKendrick's talk on her work on insect pollinators in the apple orchards of County Armagh (PhD Thesis) - my home turf!!
I only attended on Saturday and can report that the conference seems to have been rejuvenated and benefitted from the attendance of several equipment suppliers and representatives from the Native Irish honey Bee Society, the Federation of Irish Beekeeping Associations, VITA and MAQS. The presence of the retailers really helps boost attendance at these events. It was also nice to see the UBKA involve a number of the local beekeeping associations in the event, having asked them to set up an association display with a prize being awarded for the best one.
