Like the username - great - it was only a few months ago that I was pilloried on here for using that term:D

my godfather now nearly 70 is a joiner and undertaker and still works (had a heart bypass end of last year and conducted a funeral Saturday toting a walking stick because of his gammy knee).
Soooo, is it O.K. if I call him a coffin making coffin filling coffin dodging coffin carrier ? :willy_nilly:

Been there and did both, I had to retire after many years 'before the mast' ( I was a harpoon boy on a whaler until my head went blunt ) due to a dodgy ticker, one quad bypass and a few weeks R&R later I found a job with the local undertakers, casual to start with, driving bearing etc, I liked the job, they liked me and took me on full time, even paid for me to go on an embalming course and there I stayed until I really retired, and that ladies and gentlepersons along with my age and last job accounts for my username:):)

Regards

I'm 37 and my father 70: this is our third season keeping bees. The guy who started us keeping bees will be 77 next birthday and has been working with bees since he was six years of age. He is getting to the stage where a full super is a bit much for him to lift and he needs good light to see eggs and newly hatched larvae but my father and I are glad to be able to help him and will continue to do so as long as he wants to keep bees. Some of his colonies are a legacy of long passed beekeepers and it is nice to know their history - it gives a further connection to my bees and an obligation to manage them to the best of my ability.

yep.. i have one colony from my GF strain of bees, they never make a lot of honey. never eat a lot of food, not nasty but you have to respect them otherwise they show you who is boss, rthey just seem to survive what ever the weather

would i re queen them..never, they are part of my family

My family assures me that I have claimed teh same age for several years...so how old am I really? Anyone got a calculator?

Moving supers about is not the only effort involved in beekeeping, scrubbing propolis off, making up frames, collecting smoker fuel, carting stuff to the apiary it all adds up. Could be that all this activity keeps us beeks fit and helps us stay active longer, and that's without eating any of the vitamins etc in our honey. Well that's what I'm hoping!

to lug all those massive boxes of bees and honey around!

and the three feet of snow that's usually on top!
